Spirit Story Box

What's Your Story?
"For my part, I am inclined to believe that our personality hereafter will be able to affect matter. If this reasoning be correct, then, if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected, or moved, or manipulated -- whichever term you want to use -- by our personality as it survives in the next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something."
--Thomas Alva Edison

Spirit Story Box is is a unique creation based on ancient principles and wisdom!

The story of this app begins with a pair of paranormal investigators who theorized spirits could actually manipulate certain environmental elements and, as such, be able to communicate through an electronic device such as the iPhone.

In the "spirit" of Thomas Edison, they set about creating such an app. Early results were startling. With just a limited vocabulary the earliest Spirit Story Box output words that seemed to describe what was going in the real world.

The first three words seemed to perfectly match one side of an overheard telephone conversation. When the software engineer (programming the app) mistakingly changed the needle on the meter to blue, the Spirit Story Box immediately spat out "blue."

The name "Spirit Story Box" is in keeping with a longstanding tradition of other famous paranormal devices with "box" in the title ("Frank's Box" named after inventor Frank Sumption, etc.). It also owes much inspiration from the awesome work of Spud Pickles and his "Ghost Radar" application.

(The Spirit Story Box is for entertainment purposes only.)

The device running Spirit Story Box may be held or sitting on a sturdy surface. Motion will not affect the performance.

No warm up period is needed. As activity increases the needle on the onscreen meter will approach the colored area. When it is ready to cross into the colored bar, it will speak a single word. Also as the activity increases, the energy swarm visualization activity will intensify. (Note: There is no indicator for mult-word phrases. These may occur anytime.)

The switch to the left of the onscreen meter selects the sensitivity of the app (which defaults to high). In high sensitivity mode, the device is more sensitive and thus more likely to output words and phrases. In low sensitivity mode, it is less sensitive and less likely to speak words or phrases.

The switch to the right of the onscreen meter controls whether words are audibly spoken when a word or phrase is output.

To share words with friends or family, tap the history button, tap the words or phrases you'd like to share, and tap the "action" or "share" button in the top right corner.

You may delete individual entries by swiping on each entry and choosing delete.

How does it work?

Spirit Story Box works by examining values within the device that a spirit should theoretically be able to manipulate. An algorithm tracks and measures these values while at the same time selectors are constantly updated, which are then used to determine what words should be output.

In high sensitivity mode, less effort is needed to select a word or phrase, while in low sensitivity mode, more effort is needed. This equates to the app being more or less verbose respectively.

Can the user sway the results?

Strictly speaking, no, not by physically manipulating the device. Although, while the design of the program should preclude users from being able to physically skew the results, the answer to this question may also depend on whether or not users possess extrasensory abilities.

Where do we go from here?

Streamside Software is determined to continually improve this product. It's still early in the game, so to speak. We will continually tweak the algorithms and vocabulary.

Additionally if you purchase the voice, visualization, or skins packs, you will automatically receive new additions to those packs upon each new update.
